A Mosaic of Terroirs

At Domaine de la Janasse, our vineyard speaks through over sixty plots, each with its own identity. We’ve explored every corner of this mosaic of terroirs. Our in-depth studies of the soils, their sun exposure, and microclimates have guided us. This ensures each grape variety is planted in its ideal location.

For instance, our white varietals and Syrahs seek freshness and finesse. They thrive on sandy-limestone soils caressed by the rising sun. As for our powerful Mourvèdre, they soak up the sun and achieve ripeness on our  plots with clay-limestone and rounded pebbles.

This incredible plot diversity is key to the complexity and depth of our blends. It also gives birth to exceptional single-terroir cuvées like Chaupin, Les Garrigues, Terre d’Argile, and Terre de Bussière. Our later-ripening parcels, which produce the Chaupin and Les Garrigues cuvées, offer 100% Grenache wines. This is the emblematic grape of the Southern Rhône Valley. For us, Grenache reveals its full splendor and balance on cooler soils. Conversely, on warmer, more generous terroirs, we marry its richness with the structure of Mourvèdre and the elegance of Syrah, creating a wonderful harmony.
