The Sabon family

Aimé, the builder

The story of Domaine de la Janasse began in 1967. That year, Aimé Sabon returned from his military service. He took over the vineyards of his father, who supplied grapes to a cooperative cellar, and his father-in-law, who sold wine to négociants. By 1973, Aimé had built his own cellar.

This is how Domaine de la Janasse was born, named after the family farm located in Courthézon, at a place called “La Janasse.”

Aimé was ambitious. Knowing he possessed a fabulous terroir, he continuously expanded the estate by acquiring new parcels. From 15 hectares back then, La Janasse now spans over 90 hectares.

The next generation

In 1991, Christophe Sabon joined his father. He had studied viticulture, oenology, and marketing. His father quickly gave him control of the cellar. Christophe’s drive led to new cuvées. The domaine also gained new markets. La Janasse firmly established itself.

In 2001, Isabelle, Christophe’s sister, joined. She is a qualified oenologist. Hélène, Aimé’s wife and their mother, also worked there. The family reunited at La Janasse. In just a few years, it became a flagship estate of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

A new generation

The story of La Janasse now enters a new era with the arrival of the next generation. At the beginning of March 2026, Juliette Sabon, Christophe’s eldest daughter, joined the family estate.

True to the family’s tradition of excellence, she brings with her a solid foundation. After earning her National Diploma in Oenology (DNO) in Bordeaux, she furthered her expertise with a specialized year in wine business at Kedge Bordeaux.

Her arrival is part of a long-term vision of succession and continuity for the estate’s future. Alongside her family, she is now committed to upholding the high standards and craftsmanship that have defined us from the very beginning.
